Embarrassment

Embarrassment sears hot on my face
Skin throbbing bright in deep red flush
Awkwardness lit up in gaudy neon lights
Drawing attention like a burning beacon…

Skin throbbing bright in deep red flush
All eyes turn on my squirming discomfort
Drawing attention like a burning beacon
Highlighting my humiliated soul…

All eyes turn on my squirming discomfort
Awkwardness lit up in gaudy neon lights
Highlighting my humiliated soul
Embarrassment sears hot on my face…

It seems my lifelong fear of being not-good-enough will not let me write wilfully bad poetry… But I’ve never written a pantoum before so I thought I would give it a go anyway! 🙂

  1. “Terrible poetry”… laughs. That’s brill. So one can put forth one’s best effort and if it stinks … shrug it off as “I was keeping in the spirit of the prompts” and if it is a genius effort you can beam and do the false modesty shrug-off as everyone throws laures! Love it.

    1. I think perhaps in order to be able to write really terrible poetry comfortably, you first have to be able to write really good poetry (and know you can) to then deliberately mess it up and be able to laugh at your efforts… and I’m not quite at that point yet! But I like the prompts, so am just going with that for now – it’s a first step 🙂
