Old High Church Tower Door

Well wouldn’t you know it – the one time I actually have a door pic to share on my blog, it turns out there is no Thursday Doors on Dan’s blog this week! Oh well, never mind, I’ll post it anyway…

And this is also posted for Cee’s Midweek Madness Challenge this week, asking for old brick colours – yes I know it’s stone not brick – very old red sandstone, I think, but the warm weathered muted colouring is lovely.

It’s part of the Old High Church tower here in Inverness – the rest of the church was built in the late 1700s but apparently this oldest, lower part of the tower dates from the 14th century.

This little window-sized door is actually well above head height, set above the main door, so I’m not sure of its original purpose, but I think it makes for a great pic 🙂
