Weekly Smile: She’s Here!

This week’s huge smile comes courtesy of my newest granddaughter Lily, born this morning by c-section, six weeks early and weighing in at just over four pounds.

It seems she’s going to be monitored in the Special Care Baby Unit for the next wee while, and understandably my daughter is tired and sore but thankfully her worryingly erratic blood sugar levels have quickly returned to normal since her own beautiful daughter’s speedy but premature delivery.

We’ve all had a worrying few weeks medically, but thankfully all is now well with both of them ๐Ÿ™‚

Welcome to the world, little one! X

Weekly Smile: Colouring In

What made me smile this week was finding my colouring books (while looking for something else, of course) and having a look through to see what I’ve done and not done. My A4 books have several different styles and sizes of colouring in projects, some small and intricate and contained and others broader and bolder and taking up the whole page, so I tend to pick and choose accordingly depending on my mood. Some get finished straight away, and some don’t. Some I come back to eventually, and some I just leave as they are…

And then what made me smile even more was starting to colour in a new page of shapes yesterday – what fun!

Trent’s Weekly Smile

Weekly Smile: 12 Nov 2018

Colourful street paintings gave me a series of visual smiles this week:

The way the light caught this yellow skip graffiti painted onto a wall behind some foliage;

sludge-skip

A three foot high burger tempting passers-by on a fast food joint wall;

burger

Alfred Hitchcock on the wall of another building (again!) – he was born here in Leytonstone, so as a ‘local lad’ is always given pride of place in the ever-changing street art in the area;

hitchcock

And last but not least a tatty and faded yellow sun complete with rays carved and painted into the otherwise boring cement wall of a local playground – what’s not to smile at? ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Me after being out and about for a brisk walk in the freshest of fresh air on this bright and chilly autumn day, keeping my head warm and cosy in my new blue knitted bobble hat! And then some post-processing with a very colourful online art filter effect to help me smile even more ๐Ÿ™‚

Things that have made me smile this week include:-

Playing around with online filter effects applied to photographs originally taken by me – this orange-pink flower nestling in green leaves first had an art filter applied, before I inverted the image colour-wise then greyscaled the end result. I find this overall masking kind of experimental digital post-processing great fun to do, and I really love the way the subdued monochrome finish here really highlights the smooth flowing lines of petals and leaves ๐Ÿ™‚

Finishing a warm and welcoming hand-made crochet baby blanket for our as yet unborn sixth grandchild – she is due to be born around the end of the year โค

Talking to my 82 year old dad on the phone tonight – dad has been in hospital for the last four weeks, but thankfully got home today – definitely something to smile about ๐Ÿ™‚

Just Smileโ€ฆ

If I could smile at everyone I see

And try to make the world a better place

Iโ€™d do it in a heartbeat, just to be

A nicer member of the human race

To smile is such a simple thing to do

A universal sign of friendliness

And hopefully a smile returns to you

Connection made, anxiety feels less

But modern lifeโ€™s not always very kind

As cultures clash, suspicion grows to fear

Some only see what they expect to find

And listen to what theyโ€™re prepared to hear

So try to be more thoughtful and embrace

The power of a smile upon your faceโ€ฆ

My poetic contribution to ‘The Weekly Smile‘ on Trent’s Blog ๐Ÿ™‚

I really love the idea of finding things weekly to smile about, so hopefully will be joining in with Trent on a regular basis ๐Ÿ™‚
